Dr. Yang Dong is an associate professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he also holds positions as the associate head of the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies, director of the International Shipping and Transport Logistics Master Program, director of PolyU Maritime Data and Sustainable Development Centre, and deputy director of the Shipping Research Centre. He is also the deputy director of the Shenzhen International Maritime Sustainable Development Center. Dr. Yang serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics (IJSTL) and Maritime Policy & Management (MPM), and has been a guest editor for journals such as Transportation Research Part E, Transport Policy, Maritime Policy & Management and Journal of Advanced Transportation.

Dr. YANG is a Council Member of the International Associate of Maritime Economist (IAME) (2019 to now) and a Member of the Port Operation Committee to the Director of Hong Kong Marine Department. He is the Programme Chair of the 27th International Association of Maritime Economist Conference, Hong Kong (IAME 2020) and the co-chair of the 10th and 11st International Forum on Shipping, Ports, and Airports (IFSPA2019 & IFSPA2021).

Dr. YANG obtained his Ph.D. in maritime logistics science from Kobe University (GPA 5/5), Japan 2008. After that, he has successively served as an assistant professor at the Southern University of Denmark (2008-2010), a research fellow at the Centre for Maritime Studies, National University of Singapore (2010-2012), a senior research fellow at China Waterborne Transport Research Institute (2013-2016), meanwhile, he was the head of the project section at APEC Port Services Network, a regional organization aiming at promoting APEC port development.  

In Dr. YANG’s previous career, he has chaired funding from various sources, including ESCAP of the United Nations, APEC Transportation Working Group, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Research Grants Council (RGC), NSFC/RGC Joint Research Scheme, Hong Kong Policy Research Fund (PPR), National Science Foundation of Guangdong Province (NSFC Guangdong), Hong Kong Marine Department, Hong Kong Tourism Commission, Hong Kong Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Department, etc. He has published more than 70 SCI/SSCI papers in over 20 international academic journals, including but not limited to Transportation Research Part A, B, C, D, and E, Transport Reviews, Journal of Transport Geography, Transportation Science, Transport Policy, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Energy, Maritime Policy & Management, Maritime economics & logistics, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, Accident Analysis & Prevention, Ocean Engineering, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Journal of Navigation, Research in Transportation Business & Management, etc.   

His current research interests include empirical study, big data analysis, multi-modal data modeling and fusion, technology innovation in transportation, trade (international shipping) and regional economics, emerging trade corridors, port system evolution, etc.

       杨冬博士是香港理工大学工商管理学院物流航运学系副教授和副系主任，理大海事数据和可持续发展中心主任，航运研究中心副主任，航运和物流硕士课程总监，香港海事处处长港口运营咨询委员会委员。同时他还担任深圳国际海事可持续发展中心副主任。 08年神户大学（日本）博士毕业（GPA 5/5），09-10年在南丹麦大学（丹麦）任助理教授，10-12年新加坡国立大学航运研究中心任研究员，12-16年交通运输部水运科学研究院研究员（兼任国际组织亚太港口服务组织项目主任），曾多次代表交通运输部参加亚太经合组织交通工作组会议及双边海运会谈。16年开始任现职位。 

      杨冬博士是世界海运经济学协会（IAME）理事会会员，第二十八届世界海运经济学会年会（IAME 2020）执行主席，第十，十一届航运、港口和航空论坛（IFSPA 2019，2021）联席主席。国际航运领域知名期刊《International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics》和《Maritime Management & Policy》副主编及多个交通物流类权威期刊（如:《Transportation Research Part E》,《Transport Policy》,《Journal of Advanced Transportation》的客座编辑（Guest Editor），国家自然科学基金函评专家。

       杨冬博士发表SCI/SSCI期刊论文近80篇，覆盖20个以上交通及相关主流权威期刊，包括Transportation Research Part A, B, C, D, and E, Transport Reviews, Journal of Transport Geography, Transportation Science, Transport Policy, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Energy, Applied Energy, Maritime Policy & Management, Maritime economics & logistics, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, Accident Analysis & Prevention, Ocean Engineering, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Journal of Navigation, Research in Transportation Business & Management,等。发表文章50%以上属于JCR Q1分区以上，90%以上属于Q2分区以上。   

主持或联合主持多项国际和国家交通海运科研项目，资助机构包括联合国亚太经济社会委员会（UNESCAP），亚太经济合作组织交通运输工作组（APEC TPTWG）、国家自然科学基金委（NSFC）、香港研究资助委员会（RGC）基金、NSFC/RGC联合基金、香港政府政策基金（PPR）、香港海事处、香港环境署、香港旅游事务署、香港农林渔业署、广东省自然科学基金委及多个港口和航运企业。最近的研究领域包括航运大数据(组队获得2020联合国航运大数据黑客竞赛全球第三名)、地区经济和港航系统的协调发展、大宗货物国际航运经济性分析，内河运输体系演化和优化、新兴贸易通道分析等。
